About TED and TEDx

What is TED? TED is a nonprofit devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. TED believes passionately in the power of ideas to change attitudes, lives and ultimately, the world. They have built an network that offers free knowledge and inspiration from the world’s most inspired thinkers, and also a community of curious souls to engage with ideas and each other. Along with two annual conferences in the US and UK, TED includes the award-winning TEDTalks video site, the annual TED Prize and hundreds of TEDx Events around the globe.

What is TEDx? TEDx is where not only ideas spread, but TED as a conference that brings together bright and passionate people. The program is designed to give communities, organizations and individuals the opportunity to stimulate dialogue through TED-like experiences at the local level. TEDx events are organised independently, on a community-by-community basis. TEDx events are combination of live talks and screenings of TEDTalks. In March 2011 alone, 116 TEDx Events took place in 36 countries on all continents.
